This trek is located in the Pir Panjal ranges in the state of Himachal pradesh. This trek is like a dream come true for many trekkers. It provides you with the experience of a vast panoramic view of the Pir Panjal ranges and the snow covered Dhauladhar and other himalayan ranges.
This trek takes you through the dense and thick forests of the beautiful Solang valley. The Flora of this region includes Alpine trees, meadows, orchards and a network of streams which makes the trek more mesmerising.
How to reach Solang:
The trek for Friendship peak starts from Solang which can only be reached by road. Manali and Kullu are the nearby cities through which you can reach here.
Manali is pretty well connected with many towns and cities through a well maintained network of roads. Many state and private bus services are available for the journey from various cities to Manali.
The nearest railway station to Manali is Joginder nagar railway station. You can then go to Manali through a taxi from where you can take a bus to reach Solang.
The nearest airport to Manali is Kullu Manali airport which is at a distance of approximately 50 kms from Manali.From there you can hire a cab and then reach Solang from Manali through a bus.
On comparing it on a difficulty scale we can say that it is of moderate difficulty. The only thing that a person needs here for trekking is good health that can tolerate altitude change. So this place is pretty easy for trekking for professional trekkers and physically tough people.
Best time to go for the trek:
The best time to go trekking to Friendship peak is the months of May,June,August and september,october. It should be avoided to go trekking during monsoon as there are many landslides during this time.
Itinerary for the trek:
The trek to Friendship peak is of approx 6-7 days. So, here is an itinerary for the whole trek.
Arrive in Manali (DAY 1 ):
Arrive in Manali after an overnight journey. Today you can rest here and explore the city of Manali.
Manali to Dhundi( Trek to lady leg base camp) (DAY 2):
In the start you will pass through some bushes and deodar trees but you will end up at a large bugyal. This trek will allow you to experience the panoramic beauty of the nearby mountains during the trek. Some of the main and important peaks that can be seen from here include The seven sisters, Hanuman Tibba and other Pir Panjal Mountains. The camp of the lady leg is facing towards the Giant Hanuman Tubba.
Lady leg base camp to advanced base camp (DAY 3):
You will have your breakfast at the lady leg base camp and then head for the advanced base camp.The advanced base camp is near the glaciers and the crevices and Glacier can be easily seen from the Advanced base camp. This view is unimaginable and you will always remember such a view for the rest of your life.
Friendship peak summit (DAY 4):
Today you will have to start the trek early in the morning so that you can reach the col of the mountains before the sun rises.Now the difficult part of the trek will start. Now you will be using snow axes and using ropes to climb up to the glacier . The air will become thinner as the altitude will rise, so this could be difficult for the beginners. Today you will have to reach the top of the summit before afternoon and then return to the advanced base camp.
General DAY 5
It is kept as a buffer day for some cases in which you could not reach the summit due to extreme weather conditions or acclimatisation issues.
Base camp to Dhundi To Manali (DAY 6):
Today you will trek down at a good pace to Dhundi and then drive back to Manali.
