  • Vitamin supplements – Taking a balanced and healthy diet helps you get all types of nutrients from carbohydrates to protein, vitamins, and minerals. After knowing what to eat, you should also know what not to eat during pregnancy. Here is a brief list of food items that you must no eat or consume:

  • Unpasteurised dairy products – As per experts, consuming raw milk and allied unpasteurised dairy products is unsafe for you during your pregnancy. They can make you have food borne diseases. The presence of bacteria such as coli, and salmonella in unpasteurised dairy products is harmful to you and the baby in your womb. 
  • Raw and undercooked foods – Due to the presence of the toxoplasma parasite in the field where fruits and vegetables are cultivated, consuming raw and undercooked foods might cause you to have toxoplasmosis. Consumption of unwashed fruits and vegetables might cause you food poisoning and facilitate the transportation of harmful microbes in your body. 
  • Caffeine – Too much consumption of coffee or caffeinated drinks might cause you to have low birth weight in the baby and premature delivery. You should not take caffeine more than 200 milligrams a day if you can’t avoid consuming it. 
  • Soft cheese – Soft cheese contains listeria bacteria that might cause you to have infections. The infection can lead you to have premature delivery or miscarriages. Further, it can harm your baby too. Avoid eating soft cheese. 
  • Alcohol  – As a mom-to-be, you must avoid having alcoholic beverages during pregnancy. Alcohol consumption can create developmental defects in your baby. It can cause physical and mental development issues.
